This is my entry for the Paper Heartmovie poster contest. All digitally painted and assembled in Corel Painter Essentials II, just mentioning for the lack of category. It can be seen at full size if you download it.
I wasn't planning to enter at first, but the idea hit me like a strong wind as I was trying to fall asleep one recent morning after staying up all night. A lot of great things come at that time, huh? I scribbled a brainstorm down and felt making it was meant to be. I really do spill a lot... :/ I have no great or consistent pouring abilities.
The objective of the contest is to describe and depict what love is to the artist. "Love" is a really hard thing to describe if one thinks too much, is it not? To me, it really is something we just know. Even if you don't claim to, you know it. An amazing, indescribable concept, a feeling like thirst and quenching it. I know there are different kinds of love, just like water; "good" and "bad", strong torrents, waterfalls, brooks and peaceful streams, mere puddles, and even oceans. I know that one can drown in a love that is too strong or forceful, but we all need it to live. We all want to drink and to swim. Love can break a heart like it can split a boulder, but it can also cleanse a worn and heavy soul and bring it to life again.
I'm still young and naive to a lot of experiences, but I have learned from my friends and loved ones that I shouldn't hold love back. They never have, and I'm very blessed because of them. It's hard for me to trust people, but that's human nature right? I've been hurt before, but I know I have also hurt others by holding back. That's something I want to change as I get older. So I will try to let it flow. Some day splash in it and hand it out to all who are thirsty. At least, I won't criticize myself anymore for spilling.
All the words are handwritten with my little wonderful Wacom tablet (thank you FOREVER Mikey ) except for the "Paper Heart" text, which I mimicked from the actual logo by taking cardboard I scanned and digitally cutting it. The holes in the "P"s and "R" are actual punch wholes I used my own hands for reference, but I wanted them to be as universal as possible.
I think this is amazing, love the comparisons. Just had a look at the other ones for the contest, and seriously I think yours is just the best even if you didn't win. Specially `cause it also brings in the problems with water. just love it
It really means a lot to me that you feel that way, priestessKerla! Thank you for telling me! I was sad not to get picked, but making the art and sharing it was a prize in itself. :3 I'm very proud!
just love it
This made me grin. really. it's so... sweet.
