Zippers - Hatsuharu and Rin

Some recent traditional work (well, end of last year)

Here are Hatsuharu and Rin Sohma of Fruits Basket which belong to the most amazing Natsuki Takaya, Hana to Yume, Funimation, Tokyopop, etc. I had been slowly catching up in the series thanks to my library's collection (go see if yours has manga, yo!) and I really wanted to do some fanart for the two. My original idea was to see if I could make a large piece (14" x 17" was the biggest paper I had) that would sell for $100, but I kept thinking that would be far too much as I was drawing it, so I mentally settled at $60. I don't know if I succeeded or failed with price, but I am very happy with the fanart result.
I had drawn the same pose from a reference in a fashion mag with a couple on a swing and found that old fanart recently, hence new art with the same pose/different ideas. My mom called it provocative at first, which made me really nervous , but she throughly loved the finished piece. Heheh

Oh! So motif: zippers ALL OVER! I designed those outfits myself just for them and gosh there are at least 10 different zippers visible... Their chokers "fit" together (gloats over design) Takaya-sensei is so awesome with the outfits she draws these two in, even though she's said she regrets it b/c of the work. But so inspiring! The pose can also be considered a zipper between the two And the their relationship fits a zipper metaphor as well; a zipper is something that can help keep you warm and makes a lot of sense, but the little metal pieces are cold and can cut you if you move your hands too fast. They can be frustrating and are so hard to fix once they break... ah, romance These two cling to each other and it's a delicate situation. sorry, no spoilers :3

After finishing this, my scanner broke... so trying to sell it was delayed. But then, sweet kohai-chan offered to buy it and I was HESISTANT because I needed the monies, but charging friends is difficult for me... so it was left up in the air and kohai-chan returned home. Awesome Moni also loved this pic from way back when I started it, and then she got sucked unexpectedly into the obsession and black hole that is the series thanks to me ( ) and ended up wanting to buy it, too. dang. So I caved and sold it to her for $20. Which I still feel bad about charging her or kohai at all. And I feel bad about not letting you get it too kohai . And I feel bad because I offered it to Mom because she never asks for anything and loved it too, but she was like "sell it and make monies if you can." I'm so blessed, my family and friends are love

Sorry for my childish rambling, if you are still reading. So it now has a happy home with awesome Moni and I need to try to make more different fan arts of its quality to see if they will sell, because my experiment totally backfired. . . heheh.
